Humans cannot live on coffee alone. That’s why donuts were invented!

Badger had therapy today.
While she and Cowboy were gone, I went through the potatoes Cowboy dug up about a month ago.
They’d been sitting in my hall, rotting slowly.
I put the rotten ones outside for the chickens, the larger good ones in the kitchen, and the smaller ones in a bag.
I walked those over to the blessing box.

Naturally, they picked today for a funeral.
So picture me, trudging along behind the mourners, clutching a bright yellow bag of potatoes like it was the most normal thing in the world.

Well, as I got to the blessing box, a woman was loading food into her car.
I walked up to her, her back to me, and asked if she wanted some potatoes.

That poor woman jumped a foot in the air, grabbed her chest, staggered a bit; and then laughed, “Oh my, you scared me!”

I held the bag out, apologized for the size, and asked if she wanted them.
Honestly, I probably should’ve apologized for scaring her britches off instead- but I didn’t.

She took them with a smile, said they’d go just fine in green beans, and told me she was gathering food for a family of seven.

I came home, freed the cats from their laundry room prison, chugged a cup of coffee, and made for the she-shed.
I used to love having coffee out there, but these days there are too many spiders, and I’m not about to let one do the backstroke in my morning java.

Cowboy and Badger came home, and Badger had a surprise: a macchiato and a bag of doughnuts.
One for each of us.
It’s been ages since I had a Dunkin’ doughnut.

The day slipped by fast, and before we knew it Cowboy was off to work.
Badger and I watched some TV, had supper, laced up our sneakers, and wandered down to the creek.
We spent the evening just sitting there, not doing much of anything; just relaxing.

It was a hot walk, both ways.
And I swear the sun is starting to set earlier every evening.

We came home, Badger disappeared into her room, and I plopped down at the computer.
I’ll probably get off soon and see if I can finally finish my book.
Tomorrow is Wednesday, so we’ll need to make a grocery list.

Looks like we’ve got company coming this weekend.
School starts the 31st (way too early, if you ask me), so I guess the weekend rhythm is already shifting back.
I know it sounds selfish, but I’ve really liked the quiet.
