Autumn’s Quiet Requiem for a Vanished Hour

Cowboy worked until 7:30 p.m. after starting at 6:50 a.m.
Badger and I watched TV most of the day until we were cross‑eyed from staring at the screen so long.
Then Badger went to her room.
I didn’t know when Lowe’s would show up, so I sat at the computer refreshing the screen every so often to keep track of the delivery truck.

The Lowe’s delivery finally arrived a little after 7 p.m.
The driver shook his head and said, “Boy, that was hard!”

They sent another large truck, knowing that large trucks absolutely cannot get through the underpass.
Luckily, I gave them clear instructions on the shortcut to our house, or at least the back way to it.
I don’t think it’s very short.
If you’re not from around here, you’d better believe it’s hard.
It’s real country, pitch black, no lights, curve after curve.
This time of year, if you’re not careful, a suicidal deer is liable to leap out in front of you.

My new washer finally arrived.
Right now it’s sitting out on the front porch.
I’m crossing my fingers that nobody gets the idea to haul off a washer in the middle of the night.

Cowboy and I have to be up at 6:30 tomorrow, so I'm heading to bed.
He's got an appointment with a new optometrist in Morristown.

I hate when the time changes.
It just messes everything up.
I wish they'd stick with daylight saving time, but I get why parents don't want kids standing at the bus stop in the dark.

If we’ve got to have standard time, then keep it all year.
I’m tired of getting used to one clock then bam, it changes again.

Let's get moving.
At least the change is still fresh enough that my body will see 6:30 a.m. as still 7:30 a.m.

I am a proponent of standard time year round. Two states keep to standard time, AZ being one.I hope Cowboy is paid double-time for this long hours. I'm surprised a delivery like this would be made that late.I need to have my eyes checked. The other half in my life is pressuring me.

Sandra: I know a lot of people prefer standard time, but I’ve always liked daylight saving since it stays light later in the evening.
Husband does get overtime, so at least those long hours aren’t wasted.
That delivery coming so late was a surprise to me too.
I hope you’re able to get your eyes checked soon — especially since your other half mentioned it.
