Yeah, I Did It, So?

Heron came home from school today and told me that on his way to lunch he saw Badger with another child at the front door, about to leave.
The door was already opening, but she turned back to her class, maybe because she saw him, maybe because he said something.
Later, when I asked her what she was doing, she only shrugged.

I asked her why she had tried to leave school.
She said it’s because she missed me and wanted to go home.
I explained that she must never walk home alone and should always stay with her teacher until I pick her up.
Oh my gosh.
She knows the way home.
We’ve walked it together all her life.
But the problem is that she would have to cross an active railroad track, and that’s far too dangerous.
She’s only six years old.
I’ll be asking Coach L about it tomorrow, since Badger said it happened during gym.
Surely he noticed two six-year-olds missing from his class and sent a note home.
Her homeroom teacher was out today and had a substitute, so maybe he left a note with her.
Either way, this is unacceptable.
