Couch potato-ing is a form of self-care, right?

We woke up to rain, glorious rain, and it hasn’t stopped all day.
We had a few breaks, but mostly it was a rainy, rainy day.

Cowboy and Badger were gone most of the morning.
Badger found a new therapist at the old location.
That’s great because I did not want Cowboy trying to drive in Knoxville traffic half asleep.
She never talks to me about therapy, so I have no idea if they clicked.
Of course, you really can’t tell much with only one visit.

They came home with an iced coffee for me.
It was a nice surprise, and I really appreciated it.

Heron came home long enough to drop his dog off before heading back to his girlfriend’s for the night.
Earlier he had taken her to the veterinarian because she has been limping off and on for weeks.
If it keeps up, they will have to sedate her and take X-rays.
For now she has to stay on a leash outside and rest inside.
He has medication for her, but he did not give her any today.
The veterinarian thinks it is probably a sprain or strain unless it keeps going.

I was only half listening, but I caught that the veterinarian told him she has to stay calm.
Heron called Lady a monster because she rips other dogs’ collars off, chases them, and tries to fight.
I imagine the veterinarian told him he has to keep her under control.
Heron said he cannot handle her.
A dog acting that aggressive is not funny.

In the short time Lady has been with us, she has nearly killed a possum, and she sometimes chases or barks at our cats.
She has chased a jogger and a dog walker, chewed through a solid wood door, destroyed shoes, and even torn a hole in my couch.

I think she is about five years old now, so I doubt she can be trained out of her bad behavior.
Other than rehoming or, in the worst case, euthanasia, which would be heartbreaking for a dog who does have sweet moments, I don’t know the solution.

I’ll be honest, Lady came from a rough situation.
Heron got her from people known for dealing drugs, and I strongly suspect she was trained for dog fighting or to guard property.
I don’t know how or why she ended up with him, but it took a solid year of work before she could even be around cats.
Heron’s put in effort, and she’s better than she used to be, but she’s still not fully trustworthy.

When you live with her every single day, it’s easy for Badger and me to let our guard down.
We sometimes forget that caution is still necessary.

Let’s just speed through today.
We ate dinner, Cowboy went to work, and Badger and I settled in the living room to watch TV.
It’s well after eleven and we really haven’t moved.
Dogs had to pee and the cats had to be crated, but mostly we stayed on the couch.
It’s cold, wet, and rainy, so what else were we going to do.
