Badger felt unwell all day (nothing new there).
Some days are worse than others.
She spent the day in her room.
The day moved along in its usual rhythm: chickens were fed, naps were had, dinner was made and eaten, and Cowboy headed off to work
After Cowboy had left for work, Badger went to relax in hot water (she swears that helps), and I heard thunder rumble, so I went down to make sure Heron’s cats were well locked up.
I had just gotten to the RV door when my phone rang.
Badger was crying and begging me to come help.
Huh.
Well, she doesn’t like being sick.
I hustled up the hill and into the house. The bathroom door was locked, and Badger called out that she couldn’t get up.
Oh, darn.
I grabbed a spoon, popped the lock, and there she was stretched out on the floor.
Double darn.
I quickly call Cowboy, who (thank goodness) had just pulled into work and still had his phone on.
I tell him to get home.
We need to get to the ER as soon as possible.
I got Badger up and dressed as quick as I could.
Cowboy didn’t waste a second, he hauled butt home.
JC’s hospital is nearby, but they mishandled her appendicitis.
So we tried the hospital in M, even though we’d never been there before.
We go in.
I’m signing Badger in when she says, “I don’t feel right, I don’t feel right.”
And boom.
She hits the floor.
Well, her knees hit the floor
The two security guards who’d been chatting with the receptionist jumped into action and grabbed Badger under the arms before she hit the floor.
The receptionist ran out of the office and grabbed a wheelchair.
The waiting time is surprisingly quick.
We sit down and get called back into triage almost immediately. They draw her blood, start the IV, and send us back out.
We don’t even sit ten minutes before they call us to a room.
I don’t know if it was a slow time, if they’re just good at what they do, or if hitting the floor gets you bumped up the list.
All in all, we’re there roughly two and a half hours, which is amazing.
They perform an EKG, a urine test, blood work, start an IV, and administer pain medication.
Cowboy says he doesn’t like that hospital, but says they’re about on par with a K hospital.
She has an infection and has to take antibiotics.
We grabbed the meds and got home, and she says she can’t swallow them.
So I call the ER and ask for a liquid version.
The first one would’ve been a thousand bucks out of pocket, but thank heavens, they found something cheaper.
We finally get home.
Badger went to bed, and Cowboy settled into the recliner.
Cowboy said he didn’t feel like going to work today.
I doubt this was what he had in mind.
Tomorrow’s supposed to be town day, but that’s up in the air.
We still need to get her antibiotics.
She needs to get started on them.
I really don’t think I can deal with another fainting spell.
Everyone’s okay for now.
Kind of.
Scary. I hope it's just an infection and clears up quickly. And yes, too much excitement.
ReplyDeletePam: Thank you. Way too much excitement for one night π Hopefully once we get the antibiotic into her, she'll be back to her old self.
ReplyDeleteOh Jane I'm so sorry about all of this. I'm glad Badger is on the mend and I'll keep you all in my prayers. xoxo
ReplyDeleteJenny: Thank you.
