Cowboy grew up using a wood stove for heat.
Now, we've always had either kerosene heaters or electric heat since we've been married.
Nonetheless, there comes a time in the fall when he'll go, “It's time to light the fire,” and click on our heat.
Today was the day to light the fire.
Mind you, I was going to try to hold out until the first of November, but he got cold.
Tomorrow, after the dentist appointment, I guess I'll try to dig out the flannel sheets and an extra blanket.
It seems to be that time of the year.
We've reached a stage in our marriage where he's got super cranky about sharing blankets.
So our bed is now divided.
I have my set of bedding, and he has his.
He was fussing about that until I told him I was sick and dang tired of having the covers yanked off my butt in the middle of the night and being left to freeze.
Pulling the blankets off once, you can overlook.
Twice, you can slightly ignore.
Three times, well, we divide the bed up.
I have to have my feet out of the blankets no matter how cold it might get, and he always has to have his feet covered, so this fixes that, too.
Now that we're on separate sleeping schedules I don't guess it matters anymore.
But I do still share the bed with him for at least two hours in the morning.
We made it to the bookstore.
Cowboy told the dogs, “Watch the house. We might be back later.”
He's not been quite the same since forgetting how to get to Dandridge from White Pine, and yep, we were going back to White Pine today.
Well, really, Cracker Barrel isn't in White Pine, but somehow or the other, when we almost made it to North Carolina, we were in White Pine.
You know I'm not even going to think about it.
That little lost adventure we had is enough to make one's head hurt.
We made it safely to the bookstore and back home, if you wish to jump on ahead.
Badger found a ton of books, and came away happy.
I got to pet Ezra the bookstore cat and was happy enough.
I tell you, they've got a whole lot of books in there, and oh man, I wish they'd give me and Badger a week with that store totally closed.
We’d have a great time getting everything organized and might even discover a few books we’d overlooked.
They may have the Holy Grail of books in there, but finding it might take some digging.
They just have books piled on top of books piled on top of books.
To look, you have to scootch books out of the way.
It's a little bit aggravating.
But we don't have McKay's anymore.
Pretty much, that was our Sunday.
Well, you know Cowboy always goes to morning and evening church services, but the bookstore was mine and Badger's big thing for the day.
Heron took his dog and went hiking on House Mountain.
He didn't get back until after 6 p.m.
The more active Ladybird is, the better.
She's just a high-energy dog.
When Heron is at his girlfriend's or working long hours, she's stuck with me and Badger, and we're not as active as that dog needs.
Today is my biological father's birthday.
I shouldn't remember that.
He never remembered mine.
Actually he never even remembered I was alive, but that's neither here nor there, I guess.
One of the kids he actually wanted and was a part of their lives posted it today.
The whole family has me on their Facebook.
I think it was curiosity more than anything.
They sure never wanted anything to do with me all my life.
They still have nothing to do with me.
Yeah, boo-hoo, right?
Duck them, that's been my motto for that side of my gene pool.
He's been dead, oh, maybe five years now.
I'm not really sure.
He's dead, though.
That much I know.
Yeah, anyway, I'm going to go watch some TV.
