Sundays are for slowing down and staying in

There really isn't a lot to write about today.
Heron headed to his girlfriend's house.
He remembered to turn the air conditioner on for his cats today. I went down once, and the three catio cats were on their catio.
I assume the tortie was back under her bed.

Only the one who wanders finds new paths

A heavy rain shower came through just before 7 am, but by the time I was awake and ready to go walking at 9 am it had stopped. We walked down to the library.

Junk Yard Guy stopped and we had a little chat. Apparently he also enjoys feeding the birds, although he's like me; they eat you out of house and home. I can fill up all seven of my feeders at, oh, say 7 am, and by 7:30 am they need refilling, which of course I don't do because bird seed is getting crazy expensive.

Tempus fugit

I really can't understand it, since Cowboy goes to work only an hour later, but it seems to make time a bit wonky.
Badger and I are usually awake by 8 am at the latest, and time seems snail slow until Cowboy wakes up around 11 am.
The day just kind of drags on, but then after he goes to work at 4:15 pm, you'll be watching TV, look up, and then two hours have gone by.
Time's gone into hyperdrive.

No sleep, no problem. I'm fueled by caffeine and determination

We had another incident with Badger around 4 a.m. this morning.
I did send the doctor a heads‑up, but she has an appointment on Monday, so I’m saying it’s not urgent enough to run in before then.

There are days when you feel the tiredness of a whole life

Today was Badger's weekly appointment in Jefferson City. As usual, we were up early.

The theme of my life: I played on the computer, and she piddled around until it was time for her appointment.

Problems come and go. Pizza is forever.

After living with her hair for a little over a week, and Heron telling her she had a mullet, Badger asked to be taken to Great Clips today.
We went in, Badger got in the chair, and she and the stylist seemed to be in deep discussion.
I looked over again and the stylist was holding Badger's hair out and just frowning.

The kickoff to summer begins now

Happy unofficial first day of summer.
Memorial Day usually kicks off the warmer weather, cookouts, and family time, but it’s always meant more to me than that.
I come from a family with a lot of military service.
I’m a daughter of a veteran, a niece of a veteran, and a granddaughter of a veteran.
My great‑uncle was killed in Belgium during World War II.
Because of all that, Memorial Day isn’t just another day on the calendar.
It’s a day to remember the ones who didn’t come home, and the families who had to keep going without them.

"On this Memorial Day, we honor the fallen—not only as soldiers, but as sons, daughters, and family whose sacrifice left an unfillable void and echoes through generations."

Rain: The earth needed this

I was awake and up in the living room before 7 a.m. this morning.
Some days that's just how it goes.
As we both were already awake and Sasha woke Badger up, we laced up our sneakers and headed toward the library.
At that hour of the morning, we weren’t going to be interrupting anyone's church service.
It wasn't really a good picture‑taking morning, but it was enjoyable to be out at that time.
It's so quiet and peaceful.

Finding the beauty in a Saturday with absolutely no agenda

We’ll just call this an “I'm-just-trying-to-keep-up-with-what-day-it-is” kind of post. Badger and I didn't leave the house today.
Cowboy went over to his sister's house late this afternoon. Mostly we just sat around.
There was a lot of TV watching, playing on the computer, and just generally being lazy. Badger did get in a cleaning frenzy; she cleaned my house top to bottom while I tried to stay well out of her way. But other than that, it was a lazy Saturday.

In love with rainy days

Another rainy day, heavy in the morning with off‑and‑on showers in the afternoon.
It seems we may be settling into a pattern of afternoon thunderstorms.
I'm not complaining, not yet anyway.
We need that rain.

Rainy days make my soul sing

We got to town and back home in our usual time frame.

Cowboy still hasn't adjusted to the new shift yet.

At 66, change doesn't come easy.

Melting under the sun

Knowing the churches would all be having services tonight, Badger and I took our walk this morning.

It was already miserably hot out, and it was barely 10 am.

We only walked to the library and back.

God hears every prayer, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem

Thankfully, all is fine with my Dolly Partons.
Unfortunately, this is probably going to be something I deal with for the rest of my life.

I’m starting to think I may need to find a different practice, even though this one is supposed to be the best around.

“Sometimes the worst place you can be is in your own head.”

T minus one day and holding.
Tomorrow is the follow-up on that spot they’re watching, so today has mostly been waiting and quietly freaking out.
Anxiety really and truly sucks, but suspicious spots aren’t something you can just shrug off either.

Quiet days win ✨

Today is mostly a huge waste of time and effort writing.

It is Sunday, so Cowboy goes to church morning and evening.

Badger and I do not go to church.

Chopped for the summer heat

I booked our haircuts two weeks ahead of time and even confirmed the appointment on Friday.

It is a small independent salon, not a chain, and we have been going to the same stylist for about three years now.

Our appointment was at 11 am, and we showed up at 10:50.

Friday, May 15, 2026

“I love doing laundry! Except for putting it in the dryer, taking it out and folding it and then putting it away.”

Morning found me and Badger out walking, chasing down birds.
We didn’t get out as early as planned, right after sunrise is best, but she didn’t do too bad.
We caught a lot of birds either mating or fighting, we’re not sure which, and neither of us are willing to Google it.

Change is the only thing that stays the same in life

We braved the thrift store to get Badger a large lizard Beanie Baby.
Neither of us have seen any that size before.
As far as we could tell, the scratching posts had been sold.
It's no exaggeration to say that there wasn't room to move in that store.
It was just wall-to-wall people.

“Time is too slow for those who wait.”

Today was a waiting day.

I had an expensive package on the way, and I didn't want to risk leaving the house while it was being delivered, in case someone walked off with it.

I probably should have taken Amazon up on their “give the driver a code” thing, but I didn’t want to fool with it.

I was planning on being productive... but then I decided to have a lazy day

We really didn’t do very much today.

Badger woke up not feeling well, and she was still sore from tumbling down the bank into the creek yesterday.

We decided we’d just take a rest day.

Monday, May 11, 2026

We are so fragile, and so are the people we love

We went to town and picked up Badger’s new glasses.
She seems to like the everyday camouflage pair best.

As soon as we got home, she insisted I take a picture of her wearing them.
They came with a strap too, and that turned out to be lucky later in the day.

“Here’s to the women who do it all with grace, love, and a touch of magic: happy Mother’s Day.”

The year is moving by fast.
Another Mother’s Day has already come and gone.

Heron headed to his girlfriend’s.
He sent me a text apologizing, but there wasn’t any reason for him to stay here all day.

Mother: the most beautiful word on the lips of mankind

Some take power naps on Saturdays. I use power tools

Cowboy was awake and out of bed before me this morning.
I was dragging myself up and heading to the closet for clothes when he popped back into the bedroom.
He brought me breakfast in bed, or that was the plan.

Friday, May 08, 2026

“Disappointment comes from expectation meeting reality.”

I haven’t looked at TVs in years, haven’t needed to.
We got to Walmart and started looking, and there was only one TV that still said Roku on it.
The rest were Google TVs.
A clerk explained that Google TVs still have apps like Netflix and Hulu, but they don’t have the Roku channel since that’s specific to Roku.

Life without books, chocolate, and coffee is just useless

I told Cowboy our months were going in reverse.
We had May weather in April and now we're getting April weather in May.

It was another chilly, rainy day.
It didn't rain nonstop, but like yesterday, it kept showering off and on throughout the day.

Wednesday, May 06, 2026

Rainy days slow time

Today felt more like April than May.
We woke up to rain, and it’s rained on and off all day.
I’m not complaining.
We need the rain.

Life is clearer with my glasses

Sometimes I worry about this brain of mine.
I made Badger’s appointment for 11 a.m. today, wrote it down, even told Badger and Cowboy.
So here comes 9:30 a.m., and in a slight panic, I go in, give a sleeping Cowboy a good smack on his foot, and tell him we’re going to be late.

Cinco de Mayo is a time to celebrate the beauty and richness of Mexican culture

Feeling so lazy on this Monday that I might actually turn into a sloth

Badger had her weekly appointment today, but I didn't have the house to myself.
Heron was in and out getting everything ready to go to his girlfriend's house for the night.

There’s really nothing to say about the day.

"May the Fourth be with you."

Fifty shades of boredom

I woke up this morning and lay there for a couple of minutes trying to figure out what day it even was.
The days don’t mean much anymore; they all blur together.
Badger hadn’t given us her usual Sunday reminder about her Monday appointment yet.
Cowboy also hadn’t gone to church in the past few days.
So I figured it was probably Sunday, even though I still wasn’t completely sure.

Saturday flow: relax and enjoy

Badger and I were up early again, like usual.
Sometimes I wonder if she misses being able to sleep in.

For the first time in her life, she actually seems to be on a normal sleep schedule.
Maybe she’s really feeling rested now and able to start the day, even if that means getting up with the chickens.

If it involves digging in the dirt, I’m in

I took pity on my birds this morning and went out to fill up all the feeders.
Seed is getting so expensive, though.
I may have to stop feeding them, and I hate that because I enjoy watching them and the cats do too.

When Cowboy fills the feeders for me, he doesn’t do all of them, but I do.
