The pilot light had gone out.
Cowboy had to go out and switch tanks and relight them.
The house was cold enough to see your breath.
I had hoped to finish out the school week before taking Badger back to the doctor, but she was so congested, her breathing was just worrisome, so we took her in this morning.
I was able to get her an appointment with no problem even though it was last minute.
That is a huge improvement over our old pediatrician.
They swabbed her for the flu and strep, and those were negative.
Essentially, she has a nasty cold.
They say it is an upper respiratory virus, but that is just doctor speak for a nasty cold.
It is a teaching practice meaning that they have students doing the temperature-taking and the strep swabbing.
So, we go in and the student nurse tries to get a strep swab.
Of course, Badger fights like a cat when you go near her to swab.
The nurse goes “you are almost 16, you should have no problems with this” in kind of a hateful tone.
I told her Badger was autistic, with strong gag reflexes and sensory issues.
Then she got all honey sweet and attempted to swab her three times, but none of them were good swabs.
We even went out and dragged Daddy in and still could not get a decent swab.
I wish medical personnel would not get hateful when a patient is not able to do a test.
I know that it is aggravating, but be respectful.
It should not take being told a person is special needs to get a little courtesy.
Badger is not deliberately being difficult.
She has serious problems with gagging, and sticking a Q-tip to her tonsils does not make it any matter.
I do not like seeing her humiliated, I do not like seeing her frustrated, I do not like seeing her hurt.
We know it needs to be done, but we have not figured out how to do it without a fight.
This is not just this practice.
Badger's former pediatrician was just as bad, except they never attempted to be nicer.
Anyway, the doctor said to keep her home until Friday, push lots of fluids, and get plenty of rest.
Tomorrow is the last day of school, so she starts spring break a little early.
We headed to CVS.
The doctor prescribed allergy medications to clear up that congestion, I think, I am pretty sure that is what she said, and while there I had to pick up another thermometer, some chest rub, and more Kleenex.
We came home and everyone hit a bed.
I call her a walking Petri dish or Typhoid Mary.
She has spread the love germs, and me and Cowboy are also sick.
There is a good chance she infected the entire school those two days she went.
She seems to be extremely contagious.
The doctor said she would start feeling better in seven to ten days, so I guess that is the same for me and Cowboy.
She and I have the luxury of being able to just take it easy and sleep it off, but Cowboy does not.
Poor guy.
