Making memories and mistakes. Shrug. Kayaking is harder than it looks!

It rained overnight, and it must’ve been a good steady rain too.
The ground was really wet, and we even had puddles on the sidewalk.
I’m disappointed we can’t hear the rain on the tin roof.
That was something I was really looking forward to.
He didn’t tear off the old roof, so it kind of mutes the sound.

Today was Badger's yearly check-up.
I’m counting the days until she’s 18 so we can leave this place.
They’re just weird.
It wasn’t much of a check-up, but she at least got her flu shot.
We left, picked up her medicine, and I got my hair cut, more on that in a minute.
When I came out of the salon, I had a voicemail waiting.
They forgot to have us fill out some papers and clean out Badger's ears.
So we turned right back around, luckily we were still in town.
It was just a depression screening, and her ear cleaning didn’t take ten minutes.
They could have waited.

So, haircut.
I went in and told her to cut it as short as she could without shaving me, and she did.
I was hoping to get rid of that pink, but I’m afraid I’m stuck with it for all eternity.
Okay, maybe not that long, but still, I’m tired of pink.
The next step is shaving it, but it was cold today and my little ears got a nice little breeze, brrr.
I think shaving can wait.

We came home. Cowboy got his nap in while Badger and I cooked dinner.
By the time dinner was done and we’d eaten, it was time for Cowboy to go to work.
Badger took a long nap.

Heron came by to borrow the mower.
He wasn’t gone more than an hour before he brought it back.
He loaded Badger and me up, and we headed to the river.
He decided baby sister needed to learn how to kayak.
I’ll be honest, it scared me to death.
Neither of them can swim.
Badger’s taught herself enough to get by in a pool, but a river is a whole different thing.
At least Heron brought her a life jacket, but he didn’t have one, and he can’t swim well enough to survive in a pool.
Badger had a blast though, and I think it’s something she’d want to do again.
We stayed until dark.

It was so cold on that riverbank, 55° at 7 pm.
We all grabbed a cup of coffee when we came in.

Today really flew by, I didn’t realize how late it was getting.
I need to be getting off of here and heading to bed.
Tomorrow is town day, so we’ll be up early and gone most of the day.
