I’ll be going snow-where today

We woke up to a winter wonderland.
From the reports coming in, the roads are beyond dangerous.
We’ve got somewhere between five and seven inches of snow out there, and the high temperature in Knoxville today was 25.
I’m not Knoxville, but they don’t give an official temp for my area.

“What is the use of a voice if it is never heard?”

Some things don’t belong on a public blog, so I’ll just say today was a very bad day.

The weather reports were already calling for major snow after dark.
There was a lot of back and forth about plans for the kids, and everybody had their own idea about what would work.
In the end, the plans stayed the way they were, even if it didn’t make sense.

Cheers to a cavity-free smile!

Badger’s dentist appointment went well.
A quick cleaning, a quick check, and she was out the door, good until August.

Time was short, but we got enough groceries to see us through, plus chicken feed.
We made it home at ten minutes to one, which was pretty good timing.

Winter: the season of endless chills and Netflix binges

Cowboy didn’t get in bed until 5 a.m. because something broke at work.
That meant I only cat napped through the night.
I don’t sleep well when he isn’t home.

“It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.”

The temperature continues to stay at or below freezing, and the wind howled all day today.
There just isn't anything to write about when you're stuck indoors.

“Seize the day? More like freeze the day.”

I woke up to a surprise this morning.
It had snowed again overnight, and both the road and the yard had a light dusting.
We had snow flurries until mid-morning.
They were pretty to watch, and nothing stuck.
Temperatures never made it out of the twenties, so whatever rain we got on Sunday has to be ice by now.

Finding comfort in the rhythm of the rain

The temperature finally got above freezing, so we just had rain all day.
But it’s supposed to drop into the teens tonight, so who knows what the roads will look like in the morning.

Heron went to his girlfriend’s house, and he’ll be back tomorrow or Tuesday.
He made it just fine.
The rain washed away whatever icing we had.

I don’t need coffee—I choose it… every single morning… forever

Another Keurig bit the dust, although that was not unexpected.
We knew there was some reason we stopped using the red Keurig.
Our morning started with a bleary‑eyed Heron desperately shaking the Keurig, begging it for just one cup of coffee, just one please.
Badger said she did not realize just how addicted to coffee we actually were.
Heron had to stumble off to work without any caffeine.
He works at a bar and pizzeria.
Hopefully they sell coffee

“When ill luck begins, it does not come in sprinkles but in showers.”

Badger had her appointment in Jefferson City today.
I’d planned to go into the bank afterward because a store double‑charged me, but by the time we got to the doctor’s office, I decided I wasn’t in the mood to deal with a live human.
 I called customer service instead.
It took the whole appointment, a full hour, to get it sorted out, but I think we’re good now.

He’s the Reason His Guardian Angel Drinks

We didn’t have as early a start today and were able to wake up at our usual time.
Traffic was still heavy.
I rode all the way down with one hand cupped on my forehead and my nose stuck in the phone.
Badger said Cowboy nearly rear-ended an old lady, but I pretty much had a blindfold on and tried not to see anything.

I'm on my second guardian angel. The first one quit and is in therapy

Our morning started out entirely too early.
I think Badger was up around 6:30 a.m., and I got up around 7.
We were on the road at 8.
We got to the underpass and a deer poked its head out.
Luckily Cowboy saw it and slowed down, and the deer didn’t try to leap out.
He saw our car and headed back up the railroad tracks.
It was a small bright spot in a morning that started too soon.

Yawning my way through the day. 😴

Cowboy didn’t get home from work until 4 a.m.
I never sleep well when he’s not home, so I mostly catnapped.
I tried to get Raven up and off to work.
 He didn’t leave until after 2 a.m.

January state of mind

There wasn’t much to say about the day.
It was another long stay‑inside winter day.
The temperature never climbed out of the low forties, and the wind blew almost nonstop.
It feels like we get more windy days now than calm days.

Some days just surviving is my greatest achievement

It was a long morning around here.
Things got noisy early, and nobody slept much.
We’re all tired and doing the best we can to get through the day.

Unless it’s an emergency, please don’t bother me

Our morning started at 5 a.m.
I keep thinking it’d help if Raven took the kids into the living room when they wake up.
They wouldn’t be any quieter, but at least they wouldn’t be right outside our doors.

Escape reality, dive into a good book 📕

We got back to town today, and the crowds surprisingly weren’t terrible.
It didn’t take us long, and we came home to a hot meal thanks to Badger and the crockpot.

It wasn’t long before Cowboy headed off to work.
Badger and I started the waiting game for Raven and the kids to get down.

January: the month of hibernation and Netflix marathons

I had a restless night.
That’s becoming normal lately.
My nose was stuffed up, I couldn’t breathe, and then the coughing kicked in.

“January is like the monday of months.”

It’s Wednesday, and really, what more is there to say.
Cowboy went for his lab work this morning.
It was safety‑meeting day at work, so he headed in early.

Laundry is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get

Badger and I have the routine down pat for when the exterminator comes.
It helps that the house is already clean, and all that needs to be done is clearing off the kitchen countertops.
He was in and out quickly.

Currently accepting good vibes and jumper cables

Badger was awake before me this morning, which never happens.
It was her first appointment with the new psychologist, so she might’ve been nervous.

Raven got home early too, but he sat in his car for nearly an hour.
He probably fell asleep.
I could never do third shift.
I don’t know how he manages it.

No days off, not even Sunday!

Raven and the kids pulled out at 1:18 p.m.
It makes for a long day.
Once they’re gone, the house calms down and things feel normal again.

It's too early for this... but here we are!

I heard footsteps around seven, though I’d been half-aware of movement long before that.
I usually wake up early because I want to, but there’s a difference between choosing to wake up and being woken up.
It’s not pleasant to be pulled out of a sound sleep.

Midnight oil vibes 🌙

It’s nearly midnight, and here I sit trying to blog.
I’m not a night owl.
Ten o’clock is usually my bedtime unless a good book keeps me up.

"When fiber leads, the future follows."

KUB pulled into my driveway at 8:12 a.m., and the work was finished by 11.
The technician was a polite young man who looked about Badger’s age, although he could just as easily have been Heron’s age.
I had a brief moment of panic when he said everything usually gets installed in either a basement or an attic.
We explained that my attic requires crawling in on your stomach, but I did have a crawl space he could use.

The fact that people think it’s okay to help themselves to other people’s property is wrong

Cowboy said he was going to the new hardware store by Food City if I wanted to tag along.
I jumped at the chance, and since we’d be right there, I told Badger to come with us.
We had chili yesterday, so I figured I’d grab some hot dogs and we’d have chili and hot dogs today.

O wind, a-blowing all day long, O wind, that sings so loud a song!

We’ll just call this a placeholder post because nothing happened today.
Badger and I spent most of the day watching TV.

Basking in the glow of the winter sun

It felt like spring today, warm enough to hit the high sixties.
Badger and I walked down to the yappy dachshund house, and I didn’t even bother with a jacket.
It’s January, so I know it won’t stick around, but I’m soaking it up while I can.

Cleaning day: turning chaos into calm

Raven and the kids headed out a little before 11 a.m., and Heron left for his girlfriend’s around 11:30.
After that, Badger and I grabbed some breakfast and got moving on the cleaning.
She took the laundry room, where the cats had made a real mess after being cooped up since early Friday.
I can’t blame them, but the cats have to stay locked in the laundry room on the weekends.
It’s just better for them.

Evening moon whispers calm in the chaos 🌙🤫

Cowboy, Badger, and I left the house between 10 and 10:30 this morning and didn’t get back until around 2 p.m.
Badger had no trouble getting her camera lens out of commission.
She still has one or two at the shop to be sold.

Friday, January 2, 2026

Keep calm and take a walk

Raven put the kids to bed at 7:30 p.m.
It’s nice to use my computer in the quiet, but an early bedtime means an early wake-up time.

Who knows when Cowboy will get home from work.
It’s usually around 1 a.m., which doesn’t give him much time to sleep.

Wishing you peace, love, and laughter in the new year

I hope everyone had a happy New Year.
I watched the ball drop in silence because my computer has no sound.
I finished the episode of the TV show we’re watching and was in bed by 12:30 a.m.

Ring out the old, Ring in the new!!
