Wishing you peace, love, and laughter in the new year

I hope everyone had a happy New Year.
I watched the ball drop in silence because my computer has no sound.
I finished the episode of the TV show we’re watching and was in bed by 12:30 a.m.

Cowboy got home at 2:30 a.m.
He spent his New Year’s Eve with his other wife: that factory.
I’m Wife 2, but the factory had him long before Wife 1 or I ever did.
Honestly, the factory has had him the longest of all.

I stumbled out bleary‑eyed at 8:15 a.m. and went straight for coffee.
 I skipped my morning meds.
My doctor says it’s fine once in a while, just not to make it a habit.
There was no way I was waiting an hour for caffeine.

Once the coffee kicked in, I went outside, grabbed the two camera batteries to charge, then went back out to unplug the inflatables.
I left the lights up a little longer, even though I turned the main porch light back on.
It ruins the glow, but they had a full month to be dark and sparkly.

Then I sat down at the computer, wrapped up in a blanket, and played around until Cowboy came into the living room at 10:30 a.m.
I’m not rude.
I try to wake up early enough that I don’t wake Cowboy with my tossing and turning, but once he heads to the living room, most days I go lie back down and read for a bit.
I could read in the living room, but the man loves those idiot Facebook videos, and he’s deaf as a doornail, so he plays them super loud.
If I want to read in peace, it’s either headphones, which make my ears hurt, or the bedroom.

I finished “Stranger Things,” and honestly the ending was kind of disappointing.
Pretty sure I could write a better one.
I also didn’t realize the kids were supposed to graduate in 1989.
I graduated in 1988, so I noticed it.

The day moved along.
Badger made our almost traditional New Year’s dinner.
We had black‑eyed peas and greens, and instead of hog jowl we used pork chops.
A pig is a pig.
And instead of cornbread, we had cornbread muffins.

Time for Cowboy to head to work came fast.
They’re working the man to death.
I’m typing this late at night, so he’s already called on his 10 p.m. lunch break.
He also has to work tomorrow.
The plant is closed, so the regular workers are off, but maintenance still has to show up.
Cowboy was a little spicy about that.
My ears are still burning.

Once Cowboy headed to work, Badger and I took a quick, windy walk around the block.
Raven loves burning incense and running his wax warmer, but Badger and I are both sensitive to scent.
We get awful headaches, so we needed some fresh air.

When we got home, Raven was already watching his anime.
I put on my noise‑cancelling headphones and settled in at the computer while Badger took the dogs out to the backyard.
She is still trying to figure out the new camera, and it is definitely more difficult than the old one.

Eventually Raven headed to bed.
He works tonight, being on third shift, and I can never quite get my brain around his schedule.
He goes to work “tonight,” but he leaves here at 1 a.m., which means it’s technically Friday by the time he walks out the door.

Badger wandered back inside, and we settled in to watch our TV series.
We finally reached the Reba McEntire season, and thank goodness that killer trucker storyline is over.
I honestly didn’t think they would ever move on from that one.

So far Badger is a little disappointed that Reba is not a killer, although if you ask me, she is at least partially responsible.
In the show, she basically just sat there while the man died so her hermit son wouldn’t get in trouble.
She had every opportunity to call for help, but instead she sat and sang while the man died.

Badger said she’s going to stop watching TV with me because I yell at the TV too much.
I think it’s me hollering that those idiots don’t make a lick of sense that really gets her.

I think we’re ready to head to bed.
Tomorrow we’ll try to make it to the store, but that depends on what time Cowboy gets home.
We need to be up early in case he gets here in time to take us.

Badger and I still need to cover the cat tree and lock the cabinets.
I expect Raven to bring the children down pretty early, since school is still on break.

OK, OK, I know I grump too much.

It's your home, you are entitled to grump! My husband talks constantly when we watched tv together, mostly asking me questions. The man refuses to wear his hearing aids. I don't watch tv anymore, so that is one problem solved. We've had a quiet week. Hopefully time will become normal again. This holiday season mixes up my brain. Good luck with the kidlets.

Sandra: Thank you. I appreciate that. I do grump sometimes, and it helps to hear someone say it’s okay.
Your husband talking through the TV would drive me up the wall too, especially if he won’t wear his hearing aids. I only yell at the TV occasionally.
I’m glad you’ve had a quiet week. The holidays always scramble my brain as well. I hope things settle back to normal for you soon, and thank you for the good wishes with the kidlets.
