I’d planned to go into the bank afterward because a store double‑charged me, but by the time we got to the doctor’s office, I decided I wasn’t in the mood to deal with a live human.
I called customer service instead.
It took the whole appointment, a full hour, to get it sorted out, but I think we’re good now.
We went to Food City afterward.
It’s Friday, and they’re calling for snow, and the store was a bit crazy.
They were better stocked than Walmart, though.
I think we can get through the maybe‑snow event without resorting to eating each other.
As I told Badger, we never get anything, so we don’t really have to worry.
We’re under an ice storm warning now, but I still think it’ll be hyped up and then a bust.
That’s usually how it goes around here, hit or miss, it doesn’t matter much.
Everyone except Heron will be home, since he has to work, but if it gets bad, his workplace is usually good about letting people leave early.
Raven’s former partner kept the kids this weekend, which was smart.
While we never get bad winter weather, her area’s terrible for it.
I know Uncle always had it bad in the winter.
We’re in the valley, and they’re in the mountains.
After Food City, we stopped at Tractor Supply for chicken feed, and then Badger and I went into the Goodwill.
We found more books.
We’ve got so many books already.
We made it home around 12:30, which wasn’t bad timing.
We got the groceries carried in and put away.
Cowboy took care of his chickens and took a nap.
Badger and Raven were in their rooms.
I got a cup of coffee with no problems and sat at the computer for a while.
Well, it’s a two-cup-of-coffee kind of day, so I go back in, stick my little mug under the spout, and nothing.
I turn the Keurig off, turn it on, still nothing.
I yell for Badger, who spends more time than necessary trying to bring it back to life.
No luck.
Dang it, I’ve done it again, I’ve killed another Keurig.
Badger dragged out the spare Keurig she uses for hot water, but there was a reason we stopped using it.
I just can’t remember what that reason was.
I ordered another K-Cup coffee maker, choosing a Ninja this time.
It won’t arrive until Thursday.
I only had to pay ten dollars after using Badger’s Prime and the Christmas gift Uncle gave me in 2024.
In a way, this is the last Christmas present I will ever receive from him.
So the day moved along.
Cowboy went to work, and we watched a little TV.
Badger was looking at her phone when it developed a strobe-light effect.
It started flashing, then turning off and on through a few cycles, then it randomly hit the SOS button and called 911.
Badger got it to turn on long enough to see a text from 911 asking if she needed assistance and to snap a screenshot, then it died for good.
There wasn’t anything we could do.
We figured since she hadn’t replied saying she needed help, it would be fine.
Heron was home from work and offered to take her to Walmart for a new phone.
He went outside to clear the seats off, and Badger and I were getting ready to leave.
Not much time passed, but cats had to go in the laundry room, dogs in the bedroom, and bathroom trips had to be taken care of.
Didn’t your mamma tell you to always use the bathroom before leaving the house?
So a bit of time went by, and all of a sudden Heron burst back in saying, “Where were you all? I stuck my head in the door and told you to come here, come here.”
Oops.
They actually sent the sheriff’s department down.
Heron told them that his sister’s phone malfunctioned and accidentally hit the SOS setting, and they gave him a look like he might be a murderer.
We made it to Walmart and picked out a phone.
She ended up with the same model I have.
She hates mine, but Straight Talk doesn’t leave you with many choices.
Badger is still trying to coax the old phone into turning on long enough to do a transfer and hopefully not call 911 again.
I’ve got a book I’m trying to finish.
We don’t have any plans tomorrow, so it should be a quiet Saturday.
I think I’m going to head on to bed.
