“Running on empty, but still going.”

My sleep is not so great these days.
I think they say it's hormones, or lack of hormones.
Then, too, I have Heron and Cowboy getting off work at ridiculous hours.
They don't mean to but they do wake me up.

It was close to 1 am when Heron got home tonight and took his dog down to the RV.
I climbed out of bed after he left and turned all the lights off and covered Badger up.
She was still asleep on the couch where she'd fallen asleep before I went to bed.
And she had no pillow or blankets.
I didn't bother with a pillow but I covered her up with two blankets we keep in the living room to knock the chill off.

Then I tried to get back to sleep.

Cowboy woke me up opening the front door at 5:20 am.
He didn't come to bed until 5:30 am.
I dozed back off until 7 am, when I gave up, and started the day.

It can't be good for one's health to get so much broken sleep.
Of course Cowboy and Heron's sleep isn't better, I don't guess.

As I do most mornings, I headed outside and left peanuts for whatever eats them.
I haven't caught anything in the act of eating them so I don't know what I leave them for.
I started out trying to lure a chipmunk, now I think it may just be birds eating them.
Then I left Imp some food and headed back in the house.
Badger was awake by then.
She and I headed down to the creek church at 8:30 am.
With Vacation Bible School going on we've not got to walk very far all week.
Badger isn't a huge fan of early morning walks but I love being outside when the day is still new.
Usually we have the whole town to ourselves, no traffic, no people, even the dogs are snoozing.

It was already getting hot by the time we got home at 10:30 am.
The air conditioning felt good.
We're heading into what's usually our traditionally hotter months for July and August.

Cowboy didn't wake up until almost noon.
He ate his breakfast, and Badger sent him a text she wanted to go to the shoe store.
So we ended up being on the road today.

The first shoe store in Jefferson City didn't have what she was looking for, or rather they did but they didn't carry her size.
Badger prefers to wear men's shoes and clothes.
 She says they feel better.
It's just rare to find small enough men's shoes for her.

So we headed to the Morristown Mall and the shoe store in there.
Luckily they did have her size, and she found two pair of shoes.
She's done with wearing Crocs.
They wear out too fast, the soles don't last.

Cowboy curled up in the car and slept while we were in the store.
Around here people assume the worst.
I worry about someone calling the police on him or thinking he overdosed when he sleeps in the car.
He just doesn't feel like standing in a store waiting on us.

We made a super quick trip through Five Below but didn't find anything and then we headed back home.

We made it home, came in, all three of us fixed our own quick dinners.
Ate and scattered to our areas.
Badger and I headed to my room to watch television, and Cowboy headed outside.

After we had rested a bit, Badger and I attempted to take a little walk.
It was just too doggone hot outside.
We came in, grabbed the dogs to take them for a potty break.
I plopped myself out in my swing while Badger walked the dogs around a little.
Then we came back inside.
Badger headed to her room while I played on the computer.
It's after 10 pm.
Cowboy still isn't inside, but I'm heading to bed.
It's been a long day for me, and I'm beyond ready to lay down.
