I have nothing, really.
The Baptists are having Vacation Bible School so we can't walk at night this week.
They get a bit grumpy at us trespassing while they're having whatever they have.
No, I don't blame them, it is trespassing on private property.
But then again, I've asked for years for something to be done about all the loose dogs running around and no one will.
We don't dare walk the public way, it's too dangerous.
The farthest I can go back is 2007.
The church got bigger.
The gravel lot disappeared.
Trees have been cut.
The cow pasture was added.
I'd forgotten that it hadn't always been there.
Buildings have been allowed to fall down and kudzu take over.
My honeysuckle house wasn't falling down and covered in honeysuckle.
The tobacco field at the corner got a giant house and pool put in there.
They added an addition to the library.
I lived through all of this, but from 1995, when we first moved here, until 2020 I was deep in the trenches of parenting.
Not a lot really registered.
Mom died in '08, and for a year or two after that I was not in a good place.
Nothing penetrated the fog.
COVID hit in 2020.
Badger and I both had it twice, and we were out of it for a while.
When we finally got back to feeling like walking, this little neighborhood seemed to have changed overnight.
Okay, walk down memory lane done.
Nothing, I mean seriously nothing worth noting happened today.
We're just trying to learn a new routine.
Cowboy got home at 5 this morning and slept until noon.
Badger and I keep ourselves occupied and as quiet as possible.
Even with Cowboy sleeping in the bedroom, my walls are thin and sound carries.
We also try to take at least small walks, not very far, not very long, but enough to stretch our legs and get out of the house.
Cowboy is going to have to work out a better routine.
Once he woke up, he didn't take a nap today.
He watched TV and messed around outside.
Personally I think he needs a nap, but then he's worked some form of night shift since 1991.
I guess his body is used to it by now.
After Cowboy got off to work and the sun had set, Badger and I headed down the wooded field.
She was trying to get firefly pictures, and I wanted to see the triple planet and moon thing.
She couldn't figure out how to photograph fireflies.
There were plenty of them, but they didn't photograph well.
I saw the moon.
I can't swear I saw Venus and Jupiter, though.
It was pitch black in that field.
Badger was in camouflage as usual, so she blended into the grass and the dark.
All of a sudden I see her shoot up and tell me we were going in.
Then I hear this elephant trumpet.
Somewhere in the dark we were getting a deer mad, and I hope he was farther down from us.
It was too dark to see where he was.
At least I hope it was a deer and not Big Foot.
Glowing eyes, stomping feet, loud bellow.
Yep, it had better have been a deer.
So we headed to our safe backyard for a bit.
There are only stray cats, rats, raccoons, possums, and a groundhog or two out there.
We came in at 10 pm, and Badger headed to bed.
Heron got home from work a little after 10 pm, and I sat with him.
He headed down to his RV at 11:30.
He tried everything to get his dog to go with him, and she flat out refused.
She headed to my bed, so I guess I'm sleeping with her tonight.
I'm getting off of here.
I have a good book I want to read.

Yikes on the deer! I would have hightailed it out of there too!
Jeanette: In the dark, that deer was very scary π
