It was 101° on my front porch this afternoon.
Currently, at 10 p.m., it is 89° in my house.
Oh yeah, the air conditioner went out again.
It was covered in ice again, so I turned it off and waited an hour.
The ice was gone, so I turned it back on and set it to what the inside temperature was.
The house dropped a degree, so I turned the air conditioner down a degree and boom.
It completely stopped working.
We're doing as well as we can.
I have two floor fans going.
After a certain time of day, though, it's just not safe to leave doors and windows open, so we're sweating and panting but managing.
(No, the humans aren't panting. Peacock's giant, hairy dog is.)
Today was another busy day.
I woke up at 7 a.m. and tackled the kitchen and Badger's bedding.
I called and made Badger an appointment with the gastroenterologist for Friday.
Then Cowboy and I hit the yard and broke four gallons of beans.
We've put up, pickled, or used around six gallons this year.
It took us a good two hours to get them all broken and into bags.
By the time we were done, it was time to start dinner.
After dinner, I took a short nap.
I'm sorry, I need an afternoon nap these days.
I sleep fitfully at night, and my darn inner alarm starts screaming at 5:30 a.m. every day.
I'd love to know what's up with that.
When I woke up, we discovered the air was broken again.
I turned it off and opened the only two windows that could be opened and cranked up the fans.
While we were waiting for it to defrost, we moved Chompers and Ambush into the living room.
Then I cleaned up the master bedroom, stripped the bed, and started a load of bedding.
In between, we finally sat down to take a breather with a frappé.
You buy a packet of it at Walmart, add milk, add ice, and you have a cold drink.
It's good. I just wish I could make it more milkshake-like, probably with ice cream, but Badger is having problems with it as it is, just using almond milk.
After my little break, I got some green beans in the crock pot to cook overnight.
I know they won't be as good as Peacock's, but hopefully they'll be decent.
I hate green beans, seriously hate them, but Peacock cooked some and they were so good and didn't taste green bean-y at all.
I tried to follow his recipe, but the boy doesn't use a recipe.
After that I mostly puttered, straightening up what needed it and catching up on some emails.
Right now, I'm waiting for my final blanket to finish drying so I can go to bed, although the bedroom is hotter than Hades.
The laundry room and kitchen are so hot the heat just about knocks you on your butt, so we moved the cat's night crate into the living room.
It's somewhat cooler.
I have two ceiling fans and the big floor fan going.
Hopefully, all the critters will make it through the night.
Badger is wanting to leave them out, but they yowl all night long wanting outdoors.
They poop where they shouldn't poop, and they destroy anything their little paws can touch.
Nope, they get put in a crate.
Leaving them outdoors isn't an option either.
We have coyotes who like to snack on small dogs and smaller cats, and our neighbors think this is a NASCAR track and go like speed demons.
I've already picked one cat up off the side of the road and buried her.
I'm not up to burying any more.
I hear the dryer buzzing, so I guess I'll go poke the beans, grab that blanket, and head to bed.
