Cowboy got home at 5 a.m., so he slept until 11 a.m.
That meant we got on the road to town closer to noon.
It was miserable when I walked outside at 7 am, and by noon it was beyond miserable.
Cowboy didn't even gripe about having to run the air conditioner in the car.
Our high temperature today was 97° with a heat index in the 100s.
We tried not to linger but the stores were packed today.
It was 2 pm before we made it home.
We quickly got the groceries inside, Badger and I got them put away.
Cowboy went out to take care of his chickens.
We just grabbed a microwave dinner for today, and a rotisserie chicken for Cowboy.
So Badger threw our mashed potatoes in the microwave.
It stopped mid-cycle.
She went over to open the door, and the microwave started running.
She pushed the stop button.
Nothing happened.
It kept going.
She tried the quick setting hoping to stop it.
Nope, kept going.
Finally, she unplugged it.
So although everything was designed for a microwave, we threw it all on the stove and kept our fingers crossed.
She has her weekly appointment tomorrow, so I'm tagging along and replacing a microwave.
Luckily, I have Christmas and birthday money saved.
Cowboy's gift solution is always money, and it's rare I have anything I want to buy.
It comes in handy for emergency broken appliances.
Cowboy isn't supposed to work tomorrow so we don’t have to rush home, although I would like to get out of the heat.
There isn't anything else to say about the rest of the day.
Cowboy got a little nap in, and then headed to work.
I pity him as hot as it is being in that hot plant in a long sleeved uniform.
I think I'm officially losing my mind, or maybe this new shift is just messing with my sense of time.
Living in a rural area and not driving already keeps us home a lot, but this new shift has broken the day up into quiet time and busy time.
We have to stay quiet until almost noon while Cowboy sleeps.
Once he's up, we have about four hours to take care of the chickens, work in the yard, cook dinner, and do whatever else needs doing.
Then around 3:00 p.m., he goes back to bed, and we have to be quiet all over again.
He leaves for work at 6:30 p.m., and that's when Badger and I can finally do things like laundry, deep cleaning, or whatever else we've been putting off.
I really hate this new shift.
The day feels choppy, and then the night just vanishes.
You look at the clock at 6:30 p.m., and the next time you look it's 9:00 p.m.
Zoom.
The night's gone.
Badger and I have stayed indoors enjoying the air conditioning.
She was in her room for a good while.
I played on the computer.
We watched a little TV, then she said she felt bad, and headed to bed super early.
Heron came in from work, and headed to the shower.
So I'm staying up until he goes back to the RV.
He's another one I pity.
Right now he's working the stadium, cooking in an outside kitchen.
I can't believe Saturday is the 4th already.
Time is flying by.
I can't help but think under a different president it could have been a huge deal.
I remember 1976, how my town painted all the fire hydrants to look like George Washington and Betsy Ross.
We all put our bonnets and long dresses on, and it was a huge thing.
I don't even care if we celebrate this year or not.
America sucks right now.
That's just my opinion.
Tuesday will be our 36th anniversary.
No plans for a celebration.
We never celebrate.
It would have been cool if it had been 7/7/77.
Cowboy could have gotten married on that date.
He was 17.
I was only 7, though.
Boys were still full of cooties and yucky.
I know, I know, I'm rambling.
I'm really sleepy.
I didn't sleep at all last night.
I kept having weird nightmares about one of my aunts.
I don't remember exactly but they were disturbing.
Heron has finally gone to his RV, so I'm heading to bed.
It's 10:43 pm.
It's 79° with a feel like of 83°.
Even with the air conditioning going, I'm sweating in here.
