Take some advice from winter and chill out

Cowboy had his doctor appointment today.
I was surprised to see his results come back this evening.
I hadn't expected it to be so soon.
It looks like he's prediabetic so we probably need to be figuring out a new diet.
Or at least I guess we do.
If anyone out there has been through this and have any tips please leave them in the comments.

Badger was in one of her cranky moods today.
Cowboy and I just let her be.
He napped, or pretended to, and I hid out in the bedroom until he left for work.

Since Badger started therapy and medication, her moods have been more up and down.
Not all the time, but enough that things feel a little tense some days.

She didn't want to cook today, and that was okay, but we had nothing thawed out.
There wasn't anything I could quickly cook.
Cowboy just heated up a can of beef stew and I reheated the lasagna from Sunday.

Badger stayed in her room until 7 p.m.
Sometimes that’s just how things go.

I cleaned the house and caught up on laundry, read a little, and watched my TV series.

When I took my stray cat some food, I saw that it was still snowing.
It's snowed all day, but it’s not the kind that sticks, just the kind that's pretty to watch.

Badger did watch a little TV with me this evening, but she headed back to her room at 9 p.m.
I really don’t know how to handle her mood these days.

Heron also headed to his RV early, so I’m finishing this up and going to watch “Derry.”
Stephen King probably isn’t the best thing to watch before bed, but why not?
Badger says Stephen King explains a lot about me.
I was reading him long before I probably should’ve been.
I sort of remember reading “Salem’s Lot” in third or fourth grade.

No plans for tomorrow other than Operation Wash Bedding Day.
Wednesday we’re on the road again, heading to Powell for Badger’s appointment.
I’d said I’d stay home, but she told me, “No, you always go with me,” so I guess I’m going to Powell.

OK, let’s stop yapping and head on to bed.

I have been a fan of Stephen King from the start of his career. My family on the paternal side was rife with diabetes. My father was an insulant dependent diabetic and I have hovered at the brink for years. Limit carbs. Use whole grains instead of the white four. Avoid rice, especially white rice. It's like shooting a syringe of sugar into your body. Limit potatoes and stay away from the starchy ones like russets. Eat protein when eating carbs. Eryrthritol is a good sugar substitute. There's lots of good info from reliable sources online.

Sandra: Stephen King is amazing. There have been very few of his books that I didn’t like.
Thank you for sharing all of that, especially the specific suggestions about carbs and starches. That’s really helpful.
We are definitely a big potato and pasta household, so your comments about white rice, russets, and balancing carbs with protein gave us a lot to think about.
My daughter and I have been trying to piece together some recipes that make smarter swaps without feeling too drastic.
I’m sorry you’ve been hovering on the brink for so long. That has to be incredibly stressful, especially with your family history and your father being insulin‑dependent.
On our side, my father‑in‑law was insulin‑dependent, and three of my husband’s five siblings are as well, so it’s something we take seriously. I’m hoping we can make some changes now and do what we can to help my husband stay healthy.
