I'm going to get today's post out of the way.
I don’t expect to have anything especially exciting to write about later.
It's already after 4 p.m., and the day's practically gone.
Halloween is very quiet here.
Of course, when I was a child and later when I was raising my own kids, you weren’t supposed to go out until after dark.
That was a very long wait.
I don't think kids do that these days, what with safety concerns and such.
My mom and I would walk a good two or three miles every Halloween.
Late at night, that was scary, especially when we had to pass the cemetery.
I always expected the gate to unlock and boogers to pop out.
I was a very imaginative child.
Badger missed out because she was born much later than her brothers, but I took the boys to my hometown almost every Halloween and followed the same route I used as a kid.
The cemetery was still just as scary.
It's a Saturday, and Cowboy is home.
Badger isn't feeling well, so she and I won't have our traditional pizza and Halloween movie.
I doubt we'll get trick-or-treaters.
We never have.
Well, in the early years, we'd have one or two show up.
I'll hand Cowboy the candy before I disappear into the bedroom to watch my shows.
If some rare kid pops up, he can deal with it.
Cowboy has been outside most of the day getting the leaves up.
I'd love to know what he and his siblings did on Halloween back in the 60s and 70s.
He always mutters about leaves being set on fire, and I swear he mentioned something about an outhouse getting tipped.
Hey, I trick-or-treated in the late 70s and early 80s.
The worst I got was eggs thrown at me from cars, and once, I'd almost swear teens tossed pee-filled balloons out.
Crazy times.
Oh, Cowboy woke up this morning grumbling and griping, accusing us of sneaking a new cat home.
He'd been greeted by a crying kitten when he came home from work.
I assured him it wasn't my kitten.
I didn't tell him that if the darn thing comes up to me mewing, I'm sneaking his butt into the house.
With that, I'm going to get off of here and go finish cooking supper.
Badger put something in the crock pot early this morning, but the sides are all mine.
