About 1:30 this morning I was yanked out of a deep sleep by Badger croaking very loudly, “Mom, Mom, come here.”
That scared the living daylights out of me.
I was awake and on my feet in an instant.
You have to understand, Badger has never called me anything but “hey you” or “Old Lady” since she was about 5 or 6 years old.
I run into the living room.
And yes, when it’s necessary, I can still run.
Badger was lying on the floor.
She said her legs quit working.
I don’t know.
I mean, I just don’t know.
Of course I can’t pick her up.
We had to wait until she felt like she could move, and she slowly shuffled into the bathroom.
She’d been brushing her teeth when she started feeling funny and needed to rinse the toothpaste out.
While she was doing that, I grabbed every spare sheet I could find and threw them down on my floor to make her a pallet.
She spent the night on my floor.
She’s been dragging all day.
Not obviously sick, just not feeling well.
It was in the lower 80s yesterday, she didn’t take any breaks, and we didn’t eat until closer to 9 pm.
Of course she was also sniffing paint for four or five hours, and that paint has a very strong odor.
I did leave her doctor a message, explaining what happened.
We’ll see what he thinks.
We finally had more typical April weather.
It rained all day and turned chilly.
This whole month has felt more like June, so I wasn’t complaining.
Badger and I stayed in my bedroom watching “The X Files.”
Cowboy napped until 3:30 pm, then went outside to take care of the chickens.
He came back in around 6 pm and told us to get ready.
We were going out to eat.
I had already told him Badger didn’t feel like cooking, so it was either me cooking or him heating up a can of beef stew.
Badger’s been cooking for us for, I guess, about six years now, and Cowboy refuses to go back to my cooking.
I’m not ashamed to admit I prefer convenience, easy, and fast.
Mostly opening cans.
Badger actually enjoys cooking.
The gal takes after Granny Charlotte and Great Great Aunt GG.
She’s spoiled her daddy.
She has no one to blame but herself.
She should have never shown she could really cook, you know, Southern from-scratch, made with time, care, and a little love.
We ended up in Morristown at Captain D’s.
Cowboy wanted a buffet but didn’t want to drive all the way to Knoxville.
Other than Golden Corral, I don’t think there are many buffets left.
You’ve got Golden Corral in Morristown, Knoxville, and Sevierville, and Austin’s Steak & Homestyle Buffet in Knoxville.
That’s about all I know of.
I’m the only one who really likes seafood, so he mostly chose Captain D’s for me.
I had fish, shrimp, and stuffed crab.
Badger still wasn’t feeling a hundred percent, so she mostly just nibbled at her fish.
We brought hers home to the cats.
On the way home, we stopped at Lowe’s.
Cowboy wanted tomato plants, but about had a fit at how expensive they’ve gotten, so we didn’t get any.
Badger did find the brown paint for the giant rooster, so we grabbed that.
Our final stop was Walmart, where we bought a bunch of flower seeds, mostly sunflowers.
Badger wanted snapdragon seeds, but we’ll have to find those online somewhere.
Neither Lowe’s nor Walmart had them.
We made it home at 9 pm.
I’m getting this typed up and heading to bed.
I had a rough night, and I’m exhausted.

Yikes!! Not how you want to be awakened. Frightening. I hope it was simply all the things of the day that caused this. It certainly sounds like she may have overdone.
I have no idea if there are buffets around. I haven't been to one for at least 40 years! We don't eat out. I was the one who used to enjoy it, now I'm the one who says, nope. We stopped at a restaurant we used to like a few years ago for breakfast after a dr appointment. That was it for me. $50 with tip for breakfast. I've become frugal in my old age.
Sandra: No, it wasn’t a good way to be woken up. Her doctor was concerned enough that he’s fit her in for an appointment tomorrow. I think she may have been sleepwalking and her legs just gave out, or she could have overheated and overdone herself—but we’ll see what the doctor says.
It’s crazy expensive to eat out.
$50 for just two people? That’s insane.
We didn’t use to eat out very often, but then the kids grew up on us, and my husband seems to be making up for those lost years. He loves being able to go out. It’s got to the point it’s not the treat it used to be. My daughter and I are a bit over it, and it’s expensive—prices just keep going up.
I hope Badger is feeling better now. My friend and I go to a buffet breakfast a couple time a year at a casino in Detroit. I usually avoid buffets because I never feel like I can eat enough to justify the cost!
Jeanette: Thanks. My daughter is still under the weather but she got a good report at the doctor today. Hopefully she just overdid herself.
A breakfast buffet sounds interesting.
We all want different foods so a buffet is the only way to satisfy everyone but they are expensive.
