Stormy vibes. ⚡️

A storm came through about 5 a.m., and a big boom of thunder woke me up.
Other than that one big bang of thunder, I don’t think I heard much more.
It was mostly just wind and rain.
The rain was welcome since we’re under a drought here.

I never really got back to sleep.
I’d doze off, then jerk back awake.
I finally got out of bed at 8 a.m.
That’s when I take my medicine.

We left the house at 9 a.m.
Traffic wasn’t too bad, but we ended up behind a tractor trailer that kept drifting off the road.
At one point it switched lanes and nearly clipped another car.
For once, Cowboy kept his distance, but we still had to follow it all the way to our exit for the doctor.
It was a long stretch of highway, just holding your breath and hoping the idiot didn’t cause a wreck.

Cowboy’s appointment was about half an hour before Badger’s, so Badger and I ended up sitting in the car for a long wait.
I think she probably napped.
I just scrolled through Instagram and Facebook.

We had a very good discussion with Badger’s doctor, and I think he may have opened up a new fear for us.
He thinks it was orthostatic hypotension and/or micturition syncope.
He said it is not uncommon.
It can happen two different ways.
You stand up too fast in the middle of the night and your blood pressure drops, and you faint.
Or even the act of peeing can make your blood pressure drop and you pass out.
Either one can hit you before you even know what is happening.

Just to be on the safe side, though, he did an EKG and blood work.

Do you know that with modern day birth control women no longer have monthly cycles?
I told the doctor I was from the dark ages where you took the pills so long, then went off for a week.
He said it's perfectly fine to no longer menstruate.
That sounds a bit weird to me.

It seems like birth control has gotten a lot easier for women now compared to what we dealt with in the 80s and 90s.

Like I said, we had a pretty good conversation for once.

Both Cowboy and Badger’s blood work came back before we even got home. Badger is fine. Cowboy is still showing high sugar, but the doctor just says to avoid carbohydrates, knowing there is a strong family history of diabetes. I can't get Cowboy to change doctors, though.

It was rather late when they both got out of the office, and Badger suggested Taco Bell since there would be no time to cook.
Cowboy perked up and chirped, “Wouldn’t you rather have Austin’s, Badger?”
So we ended up at Austin’s.
The man has been trying to get back to Austin’s for a while now.

For the price, it’s worth it.
We can all find something we like, and as far as I know, it’s the only place around here that serves chicken livers.
It’s also the only place I’ve really seen Badger actually eat at.
Just not chicken livers, and don’t even think about suggesting she tries them.

We made it home at 1 p.m.
Badger went to her room for a bit, and I sat down with a cup of coffee and watched some TV.
Cowboy took care of the chickens, then came inside, and napped until it was time for work.

Later on, Badger wandered outside and worked on putting together a no trespassing sign for us.

After Cowboy left for work, we put on a movie and watched for a while.

Then we took a walk down to the library and back.

We came home, and she went right back outside to finish the sign.
She pulled down the old rotten wooden one, grabbed an aluminum pizza pan Heron had brought home, and spray-painted it neon orange.
Once it dries tomorrow, she’s going to mount the pan to the metal pole using the holes Cowboy already drilled, then attach the no trespassing sign to the pan.
Then we’ll put it up at the start of the sidewalk.

Cowboy hates signs everywhere, but I hate strangers showing up at my door.
I’m not a friendly person.

Cowboy has called.
He says they're not going to let him be lead man.
They didn't realize how much he makes an hour, and he makes too much.
He says he didn't really want it anyway,  but I can tell he's disappointed.

We watched an episode of our show, and Badger has fallen asleep on the couch.

Heron’s headed to his RV, so I guess I'll be heading to bed soon.

Never heard of either of those things the doctor said. Hope Badger isn't affected with them very often! It would scare me to not have a period anymore. (When I was younger and of child bearing age!)

I like the photos. I'm with Badger on the liver, any liver. You may know more when the results of Badger's test come in. Sorry about Cowboy being disappointed by his employer. It does seem he has enough do, though. Happy May Day.

Sandra: Happy May Day!

It's good to see you replying again. Blogger can really be a jerk sometimes.

Thank you.

My daughter really is getting to be a very good photographer.

Everything came back normal, so we’re just going to assume she woke up out of a sound sleep and got up too fast. That’s a relief.

He does have a lot on his plate, and he’d probably have ended up on call again with that new position. Maybe it worked out for the best after all.

I was anemic as a kid so my mom, granny, and great-aunt used to cook liver for me, and I grew to like it. It all depends on how it’s cooked, done wrong it’s bitter, but done right it’s really good. I haven’t had cow liver since my mom died, but I can still get chicken liver at restaurants sometimes. I won't even try to cook it myself.

Jeanette: Thanks, I hadn’t either until I Googled after the doctor visit. From what I understand, it’s just a sudden drop in blood pressure. I’m really hoping it was just a one-time thing for her.

I used to think as women we needed to menstruate, but the doctor said it’s actually fine not to. I guess a lot of what we were told growing up just changes over time.
