We were up bright and early to head to Powell for Badger’s appointment.
We arrived early, as usual, but it seemed they weren’t very busy today.
They took her on back there, and I doubt she was in the exam room longer than fifteen minutes.
I was happily reading one of the terrible, cheesy AI‑generated stories that Facebook pops up, looked up, and there she was back out.
She’s still losing weight quickly, and it’s obvious her Adderall is the cause, but she’s too stubborn to admit it and now wants to try feeding therapy.
I don’t think that’s needed.
I feel she should consider switching to another medication, but she’s not willing to hear it right now. Instead, the doctor just prescribed her yet another pill.
I don’t doubt she has what they say she does, and I agree that medicine can help.
Still, I think a person doesn’t always need a whole bunch of medication.
Sometimes the pills can end up doing more harm than good.
I grew up in an era when therapy and medication weren’t things people turned to.
You stuck it out and figured out how to make life work despite your challenges.
I’m more or less against seeing psychiatrists and against medication, and that’s just how I was raised.
That’s just how I see it, but everyone should do what feels right for them.
While I don’t think therapy and medication are really my thing, at least Badger is taking steps to help herself.
I’m glad she’s doing that.
The women in my family have always been bat‑shit crazy in one way or another, but we were raised to keep quiet and act like nothing was wrong.
You didn’t talk about it, you didn’t admit it, and you sure didn’t go to a psychiatrist.
She’s breaking that chain, so good for her.
Taking her to therapy can be a little frustrating sometimes, but it’s great that she’s putting in the effort.
Moving on
We made a fast trip back up to Jefferson City to pick up the new medication, and while we were there, we got dinner from Taco Bell.
At that point I’d been in a car almost three hours, and I’ll be darned if I was going to cook.
I think Badger was on the same page.
It was almost noon when we got home anyway, and Cowboy goes to work at 2:30 p.m.
After Cowboy went to work, Badger and I took a little walk.
We got almost to the free book library box house when their dog jumped out barking at us.
That annoying thing followed us all the way to the library.
So we went up Pappaw’s hill and out the road that way.
We were being nosey, because when we went to the doctor they were doing something to the road.
They put up a guardrail in the most unexpected spot.
So we got back home, and I called animal control on the dog because it’s going to get hit by a car or bite someone in the butt, probably me.
They said, “Oh, we’ll send someone,” and of course they’re lying through their teeth.
They ignore our community and won’t do one thing.
Then Badger put up a post on the town Facebook page about that guard rail and had a million comments, all for the thing except for one wonderful lady who told it like it is.
Of course, it’s an election year.
The guy who got it put up was patting himself on the back, and I asked him what exactly that thing is supposed to be protecting.
That sidewalk has been broken in pieces since I moved here in ’95.
It makes no sense.
And if they want to waste money on something, waste it on fixing and adding more sidewalks.
Do something about the dogs roaming loose.
Do something that actually benefits the town instead of throwing money away.
Yeah, I’m sure I’m not very popular in this town.
After I got done stirring trouble, Badger and I went to put the RV cats inside.
Heron went to his girlfriend’s and isn’t coming home tonight.
The rest of the evening has been spent just watching TV.
My rear end has gone numb, so I think that’s a good sign it’s bedtime.
