It’s nearly midnight, and here I sit trying to blog.
I’m not a night owl.
Ten o’clock is usually my bedtime unless a good book keeps me up.
Evenings get rough around here, especially because there’s no real bedtime schedule.
Some nights everything winds down early, and other nights it’s chaos until who knows when.
When things drag on, I end up waiting and waiting for the house to settle so I can get a minute to myself.
So here I am, checking my banking, paying bills, and trying to blog at nearly midnight when I’d much rather be in bed.
But I know this is the only chance I’ll have to get on the computer until Sunday night.
We did make it to the store.
We left the house under overcast skies and came home to pouring rain.
We made good time and pulled in at 12:30 p.m.
The rain had pretty much settled in for the rest of the day.
We got the groceries put away and the kitchen cabinets locked up.
Cowboy gathered eggs and fed his chickens.
That’s never a fun job when it rains.
The chicken pens get muddy in a hurry.
We got dinner eaten, and Cowboy got his before‑work nap in.
Once he headed to work, Badger and I did a quick sweep of the house.
The cat tree was covered, the cats got their weekend rations, the floors were vacuumed, and everything that needed putting away was put away.
Then we waited.
By six the house was full and busy again, so Badger and I settled into our usual weekend routine in our rooms.
It’s easier on everybody when we stay in our rooms.
There’s less friction, and for Badger it’s just easier on her.
And that brings us back to the living room at almost midnight, with me just trying to get a minute of peace to get my computer work done.
I expect tomorrow will be the same.
